Emily Jalbert's work is defined by a strong point of view on color, contrast and light with moody undertones. Her prolific nature and tendency to work in series allows her to explore different subject matters deeply. She finds inspiration in her local surroundings and the natural world and also from her travels.
She grew up in the mountains of Virginia. Much of her childhood was spent exploring trails, creeks and pastures. Always drawing and thinking about “inventions” (sculpture), she became interested in painting when her mother gave her watercolors and paper to keep her entertained on a gloomy day. “I pretty much saw the world as light and shadow ever since”, she says.
Emily holds a BFA from The School of the Arts at VCU. She uses a variety of media which include ceramics, watercolor, pastel and oil paint. Her work has been exhibited in galleries from Soho to Cedar Key and she was recognized in 2021 with the John Tyler Community College's Foundation Art Award. She teaches a small group intermediate painting classes at the Montpelier Center for the Arts and is currently working on several commissions, in addition to her ongoing plein air and studio works. Her studio is located in Montpelier, VA.
